Battle Town Council is considering three local infrastructure projects
The Council receives income from the Local Community Infrastructure Levy paid by property developers.
We are seeking residents’ views in order to prioritise the following projects:
Shared-use path between Saxonwood Road and Battle Abbey
The proposal is to resurface and widen the existing footpath to form a shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists.
This project is a small section of the Battle Schools Greenway project, which will hopefully create a safe, traffic-free route between the railway station and Claverham Community College in future years.
Estimated cost: in the region of £200,000
Steps to Ramp – Bowmans Drive to Mountjoy
A steep flight of steps between Mountjoy and Bowmans Drive creates difficulty for some users (such as those pushing buggies or using wheelchairs) of this pedestrian shortcut into town from Netherfield Road, Lillybank and Virgins Lane, away from the traffic on the A2100.
The proposal is to utilise some of the land in the area to form a ramp with level landingsfor passing places and resting.
Estimated cost:unknown -County and District Council Officers advised“a lot of money”.
Extension of the footway along Marley Lane from Harrier Lane to Battle Great Woods
This stretch of Marley Lane forms part of the 1066 Country Walk, along which users currently either walk in the busy road or along the uneven grass verge.
The proposal is to construct a new footway along Marley Lane, with hard surface and kerbstones, that would link the junction with Harrier Lane to the Battle Great Wood where the footpath continues.
Estimated cost: £95,000 plus any the cost of any alterations to public utilities.
Closing date for responses is 31st March 2023
