Proclamation – 3pm Sunday 11 September

A local proclamation of the new sovereign, King Charles III will be made by the Chairman of Battle Town Council, supported by a Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex John Moore-Bick, the Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr Margaret Kiloh and Town Clerk, Carol Harris on the steps of the Abbey at 3pm on Sunday, 11 September.

The tradition of the proclamation dates back many centuries to before modern communications when the local announcement was often the first time people learned of the accession of a new monarch.

In 2022, the proclamation offers an opportunity for the community to gather together at this unique point in history as the reign of the longest-serving monarch of this country has ended and a new sovereignty has begun.

The flag at Battle Town Hall / The Almonry was lowered to half-mast on 9 September 2022.
