A21 Safety Package: Hurst Green to Hastings safety improvements (ref: 611797)

As part of our safety improvements along the A21, we’ll shortly be starting our next phase of works between Hurst Green and Hastings (Baldslow). To minimise disruption, we’ll work on weeknights only when there are fewer vehicles on the road. During the day we will keep the road open as usual.

The work will start on the evening of Monday 9 October, and will finish in Spring 2024. We’ll keep the scheme webpage updated with the latest closure dates and details, but the first few weeks are currently programmed as follows:

Stage 1 – Monday 9 to Tuesday 17 October – full closure of the A21 between Coopers Corner and Northbridge Street roundabout for 6 weeknights – 8pm to 5am.

Stage 2 – Tuesday 17 to Wednesday 25 October – full closure of the A21 between Northbridge Street roundabout and John’s Cross roundabout for 7 weeknights – 8pm to 5am.

Stage 3 – Wednesday 25 October to Saturday 4 November – full closure of the A21 between John’s Cross Roundabout and A28 Westfield Lane for 8 weeknights – 8pm to 5am.

Please note that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause.

Diversion information

There are 2 diversion routes for the works, for Stages 1 and 2 of the works, diversion route 1 will be in place in both directions via the A268 and A28. For stage 3, diversion route 2 will be in place in both directions via the A2100. The diversion routes will be fully signed and are available to view on our webpage.

Access For businesses and residents

For businesses and residents within the closure areas only, access will be maintained to your properties. Please approach the closure point for an escort. This is for access only.
