Battle Town Council was ‘Going for Gold’ in this year’s South & South East in Bloom competition. The town community worked hard and their efforts were rewarded as Battle received a Gold Award in the Small Town category. Their best score was in the Environment section.
The judge recorded that “The itinerary for the judge’s visit was well planned and provided the judge with a good range of sites and locations. Everyone the judge met was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and clearly take great pride in the town.”
The cemetery was awarded Silver Gilt. The judge noted that “It is clear that the cemetery is managed very sensitively for both people and nature. There is high quality signage and visitor information and good facilities for visitors in the beautiful, in their simplicity, chapel and ceremonies room. The grounds are maintained to a good standard, always with conservation in mind and with plant selection designed to encourage pollinators in particular but also wildlife more generally.”
