Battle Town Council organises the annual 1066 Writing Competition.

The title for 2022 was Beginner’s Luck and the junior competition was won by Jessalyn Berry, year 7 at Claverham Community College. Her winning entry is attached.

Details regarding the 1066 Writing Competition for 2023 will be announced in August 2023.

The competition has an adult category and 2 junior categories.

The adult competition is open to residents, aged over 18, of Battle or the surrounding villages of Catsfield, Crowhurst, Mountfield, Netherfield, Sedlescombe and Whatlington. Entries must be in English and be exactly 1066 words long, not including the title, these may be: fiction or non-fiction; prose, poetry or play.

The junior competition is open to school children in years 1 to 13, resident or educated in the Battle Civil Parish. Entries must be in English and be no longer than 1066 words, not including the title. these may be: fiction or non-fiction; prose or poetry.
